You decide to try it.
Maybe it just doesn’t fit.

Fishbowl

Recently, there’s been a lot of excitement about the merging worlds of traditional medicine, modern nutrition science, and artificial intelligence—all seeking better answers to that same question “will it work for me?” So, I thought I’d share some thoughts on the integration of Sasang constitutional medicine, precision nutrition, and these new technological advances. If you missed earlier updates, you might enjoy some of my previous blogs especially about the NIH study regarding precision nutrition There’s No Such Thing As, a One Size Fits All Diet and NIH Study Part II – The Devil’s in the Details.  Also, at the bottom of the blog page, you can sign up to receive all my blogs in your email inbox and get a free report about Personality and Temperament in Korean Sasang Medicine.

Why “One Size Fits All” Just Doesn’t Work

For decades, Western nutrition followed broad guidelines—eat this, avoid that, whole populations treated very much the same. Even today, this is still the predominant approach. It is often the reason your health issues persist. Traditional Korean Sasang medicine has always said: your unique constitution should guide what, when, and how you eat. You could be one of the many who have found relief from digestive issues, allergies, and chronic complaints when shifting to a constitutional diet—especially when the plans that help others fail you.

Now, large-scale research like the NIH’s Nutrition for Precision Health program is finally catching up, using A.I. to predict individual dietary responses, although I have some concerns about the way the study is designed (like comparing only a few healthy parameters and one entire arm of the study testing junk food). The study’s goal? Develop tools to personalize nutrition recommendations down to your genes, metabolism, and microbiome. I’m not sure this study will do that because most of those things aren’t being measured. But follow-up studies testing microbiomes and genetic markers might. To me, it feels like the initial fascinating moment where the wisdom of centuries and the innovations of today are starting to come together.

How Sasang, Precision Nutrition, and A.I. Intersect

  • Traditional Sasang diagnosis already personalizes diet and lifestyle—often, even more specifically than current Western methods.
  • Modern A.I. tools could help validate or even expand on Sasang principles, revealing the “why” on a cellular or genetic level.
  • Here’s the big picture for now: You don’t have to wait for high-tech studies to validate what your own experience (and hundreds of years of constitutional medicine) already proves. Your best health comes from eating foods that bring you balance. You could know the right foods to accomplish this right now.

Putting Knowledge Into Practice

If you’re still struggling with feeling unwell—bouncing between restrictive diets, feeling frustrated that what works for others isn’t helping you—it might be time to have your Sasang constitution analyzed. It isn’t about chasing trends but about figuring out what is right for you and only you. If you, or someone you care about, would like to start this process, visit qibalance.net for details.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the science as it evolves, but it still won’t replace the value of learning your constitution, tuning in to your experience, and finding the foods—and habits—that support your individual wellbeing. And, you don’t have to wait for Western Medicine to catch up. You can do it now.

All the best,
